Automation Engineer
KJ Engineering Design LLC | Fremont, Ohio | Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Automation Engineer to join our team.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a wide variety of technical challenges and wants to be involved in all aspects of building automated equipment. Our engineers don’t just design machines behind a desk — they get the opportunity to build, program, troubleshoot, and see their designs come to life.
As a smaller company, we offer a collaborative environment where employees have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, develop new skills, and make a direct impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom automated machinery, tooling, and robotic systems.
- Lead mechanical design, electrical controls, and automation programming.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, industrial robots, and other automation equipment.
- Work hands-on with machine assembly, wiring, pneumatic systems, and mechanical components.
- Debug, test, and optimize equipment to meet customer requirements.
- Participate in projects from initial concept and design through final installation and startup.
- Collaborate with customers and other team members to identify and implement practical engineering solutions.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and programming issues as they arise.
Qualifications
- Previous experience with industrial automation, machine building, robotics, manufacturing equipment, or a related technical field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to work hands-on.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and industrial control systems.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a small team.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and take on a variety of responsibilities.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- PLC and HMI programming
- Industrial robotics (Kawasaki, Fanuc, Yaskawa, etc.)
- 3D Design (Solidworks)
- 2D Design (AutoCAD)
- Industrial electrical controls and panel wiring
- Machine vision
- CNC machining or manufacturing processes
A college degree is not required. We value practical experience, technical ability, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn over formal education.
Candidates do not need experience in every area listed. We’re looking for someone with a strong technical foundation who is excited to continue developing their skills.
